Key Players:
NMG Key Players:
Imran Tahir:
In excellent form in the Caribbean Premier League and the veteran, leggie continued that last time out – taking 1-24 from his four overs.
Farhaan Behardien:
Scored 48 from 34 balls and shared a useful 85-run partnership with Heino Kuhn to lead a recovery from 48/4 with a well-paced innings last time out.
Jason Roy:
Out second ball last time out, but the England opener is back playing white-ball cricket, where he has so often thrived and will be keen to prove he is back to his best.
TST Key Players:
AB de Villiers:
Remains one of the finest T20 batsmen in the world, performing seemingly wherever he goes with his brilliant batting.
Lungi Ngidi:
Only recently back in action after the injury that curtailed his World Cup, the paceman has 59 wickets in 49 previous innings in T20 cricket.
Tom Curran:
Fresh from T20i success with England in New Zealand, he claimed four wickets in that series to back up the excellent form he showed for Surrey in the T20 Blast in the summer. In all T20 cricket, he now has 117 wickets from 96 innings.
TST vs NMG Dream11 Prediction:
Wicket-keeper(s)
Ben Dunk was behind the stumps for the Giants last time out but he is not listed. Heino Kuhn and Matthew Breetzke are instead, alongside Spartans captain Heinrich Klaasen. Looking at the Spartans’ batting line-up, Klaasen could be lower down the order. It means Kuhn and/or Breetzke look the best choices. Kuhn scored well last time out, while Breetzke made a useful start at number two.
Batsmen
Keeping the cost down behind the stumps also ensures you will definitely be available to afford AB de Villiers with the bat. Even at 11 credits, if he hits top form he will be excellent value. Jason Roy is ten credits and was out second ball last time out, but there is no doubting what he can do at his explosive best too. Elsewhere, Ben Dunk and JJ Smuts are both nine credits and the latter can do a little with the ball too, which may give him the edge. Theunis de Bruyn and Vaughn van Jaarsveld are both 8.5 credits, meanwhile – either could produce some useful runs.
All-rounders
Onto the all-rounders, and Chris Morris is the highest priced at 9.5 credits. If you have gone for two wicket-keepers and four batsmen, however, you may need to leave one of the key all-rounders out. That would likely be one of Morris and Behardien, with Roelof van der Merwe good value potentially at 8.5 credits – he was in good form for the Netherlands at the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier most recently.
Bowlers
~
Onto the bowlers and Imran Tahir took a wicket and bowled tidily last time out, while Junior Dala took two. If you pick both of those, you have one space left for one of Lungi Ngidi and Tom Curran. The latter’s form and fitness is known, after his wickets for England in New Zealand, so he may be the better choice for now.
Captain/vice-captain
While there is no shortage of talent with the ball, and among the all-rounders, on a batting wicket at Centurion it is the big-hitting batting stars that stand out. AB de Villiers is first among them and could be a good captain pick. Jason Roy was out cheaply last time out, meanwhile, but if he fires this time then vice-captain will be a good option. The likelihood of rain could mean a reduced game too, so the big-hitting openers will have an important role to play.
Team Forms:
Tshwane Spartans:
Tshwane Spartans lost their final two games last season and will be hoping for more luck with the weather – albeit the forecast is not kind in that regard.
NELSON MANDELA BAY GIANTS:
Nelson Mandela Bay Giants opened their MSL 2 campaign with a win against Jozi Stars – Farhaan Behardien (48) and Heino Kuhn (47) led them to 167/7 from their 20 overs, before a disciplined bowling effort restricted the defending champions to 143/5.
SQUAD:
TSHWANE SPARTANS: Dean Elgar, Tony de Zorzi, AB de Villiers, Heinrich Klaasen(w/c), Petrus van Biljon, Donavon Ferreira, Theunis de Bruyn, Roelof van der Merwe, Tom Curran, Wiaan Mulder, Lungi Ngidi, Morne Morkel, Vaughn van Jaarsveld, Corbin Bosch, Lutho Sipamla, Waqar Salamkheil.
