 PR vs CTB Toss Prediction

Cape Town Blitz were put in at the Wanderers last time out, and they might well be happy to bat first again on a quick wicket.

 PR vs CTB Weather Report

While there will be a little cloud about, the wind is minimal and there is zero chance of rain on the forecast on what should become a warm morning in Paarl.

 PR vs CTB Pitch Condition

As mentioned, the history of The Wanderers is that of excellent batting wickets and iconic high chases. It suggests the pitch tends to stay true, with a consistent bounce throughout.

Team NEWS:

 PR Team News

Dane Vilas won the title with Jozi Stars last season but has now moved to captain Durban Heat. He was their top draft pick, while they had already secured Andile Phehlukwayo and Alex Hales as marquee players and signed up Ravi Bopara. They did not retain many, but Kyle Abbott, David Miller and Keshav Maharaj are sticking around. Robbie Frylinck was initially selected, but dropped out to play in the T10 league. Wesley Marshall took his place.

 CTB Team News
Tshwane Spartans will have to wait for their overseas marquee player, with Tom Curran currently away on England duty in New Zealand. AB de Villiers stuck around as Protea Marquee Player, while Lungi Ngidi and Theunis de Bruyn were among those on a short retained list. In come players like Morne Morkel, Roelof van der Merwe and Heinrich Klaasen. This is a team packed with experience.

Captain /Vice-Captain Choice- J Malan, Faf du Plessis, Moeen  Ali & Quinton de kock.

 Key Players:

 PR Key Players:

 Faf du Plessis:
The Proteas captain is just five runs short of 5,000 runs in T20 cricket as he prepares to play his 207th match in the format. In that time, he has hit 30 half-centuries and one hundred with a strike rate of 127.03.

 Cameron Delport:
A key player on their retained list, the big-hitting batsman and part-time medium-pacer last turned out for Essex Eagles, who he helped claim the T20 Blast title with 164 runs in his final four appearances, and a wicket in both matches on finals day.

 Tabraiz Shamsi:
The mystery spinner will want to keep himself in the South African selectors’ minds ahead of next year’s ICC T20 World Cup, so a big tournament could be key here. He has 121 wickets in his 119 previous T20 appearances.

CTB Key Players:

 Quinton de Kock:
The captain and wicket-keeper hit 35 in the 72-run opening partnership last time out to continue his excellent T20 form.

 Janneman Malan:
Outshone the international stars last time when he smashed 11 fours and four sixes in a glistening unbeaten 99 from 59 balls.

 Dale Steyn:
Marked his comeback from injury by claiming 3-25 form his four overs against Jozi Stars, taking the key wickets of Chris Gayle, Reeza Hendricks and Rassie van der Dussen and returning the most economical figures in the match.

 PR vs CTB Dream11 Prediction:

Wicket-keeper(s)

Quinton de Kock remains the stand-out wicket-keeper-batsman choice and he showed his form last time out to prove that point too.

Batsmen

Janneman Malan is incredible value at 8.5 credits, as he proved with his superb innings last time out. Cameron Delport can also be picked up at that price, and he might even provides wickets too, as well as runs. Faf du Plessis is 10.5 credits, but with the other two selected you have the freedom to pick him.

All-rounders

Sticking to three batsmen gives you space for four all-rounders, and you may want that with JP Duminy there for the Rocks – he is in excellent T20 form – and Moeen Ali, Liam Livingstone and George Linde all listed for the Blitz. Ali is a particularly key all-rounder and in top form too.

Bowlers
~
The difficulty is getting those four, plus Du Plessis and De Kock, and still having something spare for the bowlers. You may have to sacrifice a little in the latter department, with Dale Steyn out of reach now. Instead you can get two of Tabraiz Shamsi, Hardus Viljoen, Bjorn Fortuin, Anrich Nortje and Sisanda Magala, however. That leaves eight credits and of the four listed they may not play. Nevertheless, teenager Thando Ntini is one to watch for the future and the Rocks might spring a selection surprise.

Captain/vice-captain

Moeen Ali was in excellent batting and bowling form in the T20 Blast and he showed glimpses of that in the opening game too. Janneman Malan is hard to ignore given his batting form, but there are other good all-round choices too – Cameron Delport could be one of those and is a good vice-captain pick on paper.

 Team Forms:

 Paarl Rocks:

Paarl Rocks beat Nelson Mandela Bay Giants in last year’s final league game to reach the play-offs – Cameron Delport hammering 84 as they chased 130 to win by six wickets. They were denied a chance to contest the play-off, however, after it was washed out.

 Cape Town Blitz:

Cape Town Blitz lost the inaugural MSL final to Jozi Stars, but they exacted a little revenge to start this season’s tournament in fine form. Janneman Malan led the way with the bat as he smashed an unbeaten 99 from 59 balls, before Dale Steyn’s 3-25 completed victory for the Blitz after they restricted the Stars to 198/5 chasing 214 to win.

 SQUAD:
PAARL ROCKS: Faf du Plessis(c), Henry Davids, Kyle Verreynne, Mangaliso Mosehle(w), Cameron Delport, Dwaine Pretorius, Isuru Udana, Ferisco Adams, Kerwin Mungroo, Tabraiz Shamsi, Hardus Viljoen, Thando Ntini, Sibonelo Makhanya, Bjorn Fortuin.

CAPE TOWN BLITZ:  Janneman Malan, Liam Livingstone, Asif Ali, Quinton de Kock(w/c), Moeen Ali, George Linde, Vernon Philander, Dale Steyn, Wahab Riaz, Anrich Nortje, Aviwe Mgijima, Gregory Mahlokwana, Marques Ackerman, David Bedingham, Mohammad Nawaz, Sisanda Magala, Khwezi Gumede..

All the best
