Info:
- Nelson Mandela Bay Giants start their MSL 2.0 campaign against defending champions Jozi Stars, who started this year's tournament with a defeat.
- In a re-run of last year's final, the Stars opened against Cape Town Blitz but Reeza Hendricks' 80 from 53 balls was not enough - they posted 198/5 in reply to 213/3.
- Nelson Mandela Bay Giants, meanwhile, are looking to go one better than last year's fourth-place finish, and have retained JJ Smuts, Imran Tahir, Jason Roy and Junior Dala in their bid to do that.

NMG vs JOZ Toss Prediction
Jozi Stars won the toss and unsuccessfully fielded first last time out, but that could be a more successful tactic with less pace in the St George’s Park wicket.
NMG vs JOZ Weather Report
There is a chance of rain earlier on in Port Elizabeth but that should have cleared by the afternoon, where temperatures are set to be in the low 20s, with a lot of wind about.
NMG vs JOZ Pitch Condition
Port Elizabeth offers very little to the fast bowlers – this is a slow wicket, with some turn for the spinners too.
Team NEWS:
JOZ Team News
Jozi Stars were too expensive with the ball last time out, leaving their batsmen too much to do. But players like Kagiso Rabada and Duanne Olivier were key last season, so they may stick with the same attack for now.
NMG Team News
NMG Team News
After just missing out on a play-off place last year, Nelson Mandela Giants have kept hold of some key players – captain JJ Smuts, marquee players Imran Tahir and Jason Roy and key Proteas internationals Chris Morris and Junior Dala. Beuran Hendricks is among the big names they have added, and he is set to take on his former team.

Key Players:
NMG Key Players:
Imran Tahir:
The veteran leg-spinner was in excellent form in his most recent T20 matches, playing for Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Caribbean Premier League where he claimed 16 wickets in nine appearances.
Beuran Hendricks:
A key player for Jozi Stars last year and he will now face his former franchise looking to add to his 91 wickets in 65 T20 appearances.
Jason Roy:
Not played since last year’s Ashes series, where he could not make an impact on the test team, but the opener has a strike rate of 145.77 in T20 cricket. He will be keen to get back to his big-hitting best.
JOZ Key Players:
Rassie van der Dussen:
Last season’s top MSL run-scorer scored 469 runs in 11 innings as the Stars claimed the title in 2018, and he started this year’s campaign with 31 from 21 balls in the opening match.
Kagiso Rabada:
Went wicketless last time out, but it is not too often that happens in T20i cricket for the paceman – who starred in the MSL last season and this year’s IPL too.
Reeza Hendricks:
The opener hit 11 fours and one six on his way to 80 from 53 balls last time out, but the Stars simply had too much to chase in the end. Last season, he hit 412 runs including two centuries.
NMG vs JOZ Dream11 Prediction:
Wicket-keeper(s)
Ryan Rickleton is behind the stumps for Jozi Stars, while the Giants will have either Heino Kuhn or Matthew Breetzke. The latter is in good domestic form and if he plays will be good value at eight credits. You are gambling on the team selection there, however.
Batsmen
There will be a lot of quality batsmen on show so it is hard to narrow down selection. Chris Gayle and Jason Roy are both ten credits but both are key men at the top of the respective batting orders, while Rassie van der Dussen is 9.5 credits and Reeza Hendricks is nine credits and both have already shown good form. Temba Bavuma is excellent value at 8.5 credits, while JJ Smuts is likely to be a key figure for the Giants at nine credits.
All-rounders
That leaves one all-round space and a choice between Chris Morris, Simon Harmer and Dan Christian. The former was a key retained player for the Giants this season.
Bowlers
~
With the ball, Imran Tahir arrives at the MSL in fine form, while Duanne Olivier and Beuran Hendricks are 8.5 credits apiece having been key bowlers in the same attack last season. Alternatives include Junio Dala, Dane Paterson and Kagiso Rabada.
Captain/vice-captain
Chris Morris could feature with bat and ball, but the best technique may be to follow the form. With the ball, that is undoubtedly Imran Tahir – he was in excellent form in the Caribbean Premier League. With the bat, Reeza Hendricks showed why he can be so dangerous last time out
Team Forms:
JOZI STARS:
Jozi Stars claimed the MSL title last season, beating Cape Town Blitz in the final, but the Blitz gained some revenge in the opening match of this season. The Stars had no answer as Cape Town posted 213/3, and Reeza Hendricks’ 80 from 53 balls was not enough as they finished 198/5 in reply.
NELSON MANDELA BAY GIANTS:
The Nelson Mandela Bay Giants won four and lost four last season, but two no results proved costly – they missed out on a play-off place by a solitary point, paying the price for their defeat to Paarl Rocks in their final group game.
SQUAD:
JOZ: Reeza Hendricks, Rassie van der Dussen, Temba Bavuma(c), Delano Potgieter, Shoaib Malik, Daniel Christian, Sinethemba Qeshile(w), Kagiso Rabada, Aaron Phangiso, Nono Pongolo, Dane Paterson, Ryan Rickelton, Eathan Bosch, Lizaad Williams, Simon Harmer, Duanne Olivier, Chris Gayle.
NELSON MANDELA BAY GIANTS: Marco Marais, Jason Roy, Matthew Breetzke, Heino Kuhn(w), JJ Smuts(c), Farhaan Behardien, Onke Nyaku, Grant Thomson, Chris Morris, Imran Tahir, Junior Dala, Beuran Hendricks, Akhona Mnyaka, Nandre Burger, Dyllan Matthews, Ben Dunk.
