 NMG vs JOZ Toss Prediction

Jozi Stars won the toss and unsuccessfully fielded first in all three matches they have played so far this season. With that in mind, Nelson Mandela Bay Giants may elect to bat first in this game.

 NMG vs JOZ Weather Report

There is no chance of rain curtailing this match like it did Nelson Mandela Bay Giants’ last game. Conditions will be perfect – hot, sunny, not particularly humid and with zero chance of rain.

 NMG vs JOZ Pitch Condition

The Wanderers is one of the foremost batting wickets in the world. There will be runs, and lots of them. Pacers will also get help here.

Team NEWS:

 JOZ Team News

Jozi Stars turned to Lizaad Williams and Gerald Coetzee last time out to try and end their losing start but both were expensive with the ball. Dane Paterson and Delano Potgieter were the men to make way. Nono Pongolo and Duanne Olivier have not played since they were expensive in the first match too. All-rounder Eathan Bosch is an option as they look to continue tweaking to find this winning line-up, while Olivier may be a due a recall, given how important he was with the ball last season.

 NMG Team News
With Beuran Hendricks still not fit, Nelson Mandela Bay Giants have named an unchanged team for both matches so far. Ben Dunk was behind the stumps last time out, but both Matthew Breetzke and Heino Kuhn are in as specialist batsmen too.

 Predicted Lineups (Playing11):

 Nelson Mandela Bay Giants

Jason Roy, Matthew Breetzke, JJ Smuts (c), Ben Dunk (wk), Heino Kuhn, Farhaan Behardien, Chris Morris, Onke Nyaku, Junior Dala, Imran Tahir, Nandre Burger.

 Jozi Stars

Chris Gayle, Reeza Hendricks, Rassie van der Dussen, Temba Bavuma (c), Dan Christian, Ryan Rickleton (wk), Simon Harmer, Eathan Bosch, Kagiso Rabada, Duanne Olivier, Aaron Phangiso.

 Key Players:

 NMG Key Players:

 Imran Tahir:
Wicketless in his two overs last time out, though he helped to keep the pressure on. The veteran leg-spinner is in fine form, as he showed throughout the Caribbean Premier League too.

 Chris Morris:
Took 2-8 from his two overs last time out, to follow up his 1-20 in the opening game. The all-rounder – who has a batting strike rate just shy of 150 in T20 cricket too – has now taken 230 wickets in 184 T20 appearances.

 Jason Roy:
Still waiting for his chance to bounce back from his second-ball duck when these teams last met, but the big-hitting England opener remains a key figure at the top of the order.

 JOZ Key Players:

 Rassie van der Dussen:
Top run-scorer in this competition last season, the batsmen had an incredible 18 months in white-ball cricket and he will be desperate to get back to that sort of form quickly.

 Kagiso Rabada:
Took 2-27 when these teams last met and added his third wicket of the tournament last time out. He will be central as the Stars look to get back to their best with the ball.

 Reeza Hendricks:
Started the tournament in fine individual form, even if his team-mates have failed to match him so far. He hit 80 in the opening game and then added 62 last time out.

 NMG vs JOZ Dream11 Prediction:

Wicket-keeper(s)

Heino Kuhn was a key player for Nelson Mandela Bay Giants when these teams last met, scoring some late-order runs, and at 8.5 credits he is excellent value too. Matthew Breetzke is eight credits, meanwhile, and a useful alternative. Their actual wicket-keeper, Ben Dunk, is listed as a batsman.

Batsmen

Two in-form batsmen stand out for Jozi Stars – Reeza Hendricks started this year’s tournament in fine form with two big half-centuries, while captain Temba Bavuma comes into this match on the back of a half-century of his own. It is dangerous to ignore Chris Gayle and Rassie van der Dussen though, given what both men can produce with the bat too. The same argument applies to Jason Roy with Nelson Mandela Bay Giants, even if he was dismissed early when these two teams last met. That also does not allow space for JJ Smuts.

All-rounders

Chris Morris proved his worth with the ball in the rain-shortened match against Tshwane Spartans and merits his 9.5-credit cost as a result. Team-mate Farhaan Behardien was key with the bat in the opening game, meanwhile, though he will not bowl. Simon Harmer has bowled well and is good value at nine credits, but Dan Christian has been expensive.

Bowlers

~

Realistically, if you have loaded up on batsmen, you may be able to afford only one of Kagiso Rabada and Imran Tahir. Both are key T20 bowlers, but the veteran leg-spinner has been in excellent form in recent months. That leaves 17 credits, and Junior Dala has made a strong start for Nelson Mandela Bay Giants so he is a must-pick, leaving space for one more bowler. His team-mates have generally not impressed, but D Paterson looks the best choice for this match (beyond Tahir, of course) at the moment due to pitch condition.

 Team Form:

 JOZI STARS:

Jozi Stars have lost three from three so far this season. They opened with a 15-run loss to Cape Town Blitz, despite Reeza Hendricks’ 80 from 53 balls in a total of 198/5, before falling to a 24-run defeat to Nelson Mandela Bay Giants – Hendricks hitting 62 in a total of 143/5. Last time out, Temba Bavuma was their top scorer with 62 against the Blitz, but chasing 184 to win they slumped to 126 all out.

 NELSON MANDELA BAY GIANTS:

Nelson Mandela Bay Giants have made a strong start to the new MSL 2019 season. Heino Kuhn and Farhaan Behardien lifted them to 167/7 in their opening game against Jozi Stars, before they restricted the defending champions to 143/5. Last time out, meanwhile, they had Tshwane Spartans on the ropes at 33/4 from 7.1 overs but the rain spared the hosts and forced a no result.

 SQUAD:
JOZ: Reeza Hendricks, Rassie van der Dussen, Temba Bavuma(c), Delano Potgieter, Shoaib Malik, Daniel Christian, Sinethemba Qeshile(w), Kagiso Rabada, Aaron Phangiso, Nono Pongolo, Dane Paterson, Ryan Rickelton, Eathan Bosch, Lizaad Williams, Simon Harmer, Duanne Olivier, Chris Gayle.

NELSON MANDELA BAY GIANTS:  Marco Marais, Jason Roy, Matthew Breetzke, Heino Kuhn(w), JJ Smuts(c), Farhaan Behardien, Onke Nyaku, Grant Thomson, Chris Morris, Imran Tahir, Junior Dala, Beuran Hendricks, Akhona Mnyaka, Nandre Burger, Dyllan Matthews, Ben Dunk.

All the best
