Info:
- Afghanistan's first ODIs since their winless World Cup pitch them against West Indies, who beat them in their final group game of that tournament.
- West Indies have already hosted India since that tournament, but they failed to win a match across any of the three formats.
- Nevertheless, West Indies go into this game ranked ahead of Afghanistan in the ICC ODI rankings - they are ninth, while Afghanistan are tenth.

AFGH vs WI Toss Prediction
West Indies won the toss and elected to bat first in the warm-up game in Lucknow but their batsmen struggled – the pitch may offer more for bowling first than expected, and Rashid Khan may be keen to exploit that.
AFGH vs WI Weather Report
With very little wind and zero chance of rain, the forecast for Lucknow is great for cricket watching – only a little cloud will disrupt from a clear day, with temperatures in the high 20s.
AFGH vs WI Pitch Condition
A lack of previous games at Lucknow makes it hard to gauge the wicket, but the warm-up game certainly saw the pitch lean far more to the bowlers than it did when India played West Indies here in 2018.
Team NEWS:
AFGH Team News
Afghanistan have made wholesale changes to their one-day side, which is now led by Rashid Khan. Mohammad Shahzad and Aftab Alam have both been suspended for Code of Conduct breaches, while Dawlat Zadran, Hamid Hassan, Hashmatullah Shahidi, Noor Ali Zadran and Samiullah Shinwari are all missing from the squad which played at the World Cup. Karim Janat, Naveen-ul-Haq, Yamin Ahmadzai and Sharafuddin Ashraf could all be among the players drafted in for this first game if the warm-up match is any indication.

WI Team News
West Indies have also changed their ODI captain since the World Cup, with Kieron Pollard taking over from Jason Holder in September. Pollard’s return to ODI cricket is not the only big selection decision, either, with Brandon King and former USA international Hayden Walsh Jr both earning maiden call-ups after starring in the Caribbean Premier League. Romario Shepherd looks the most likely potential debutant to play, however, after impressing in the warm-up game. Chris Gayle is absent, while Andre Russell and Sunil Narine are injured.
Predicted Lineups (Playing11):
Afghanistan
Rahmat Shah, Gulbadin Naib, Ikram Alikhil (wk), Asghar Afghan, Karim Janat, Mohammad Nabi, Najibullah Zadran, Rashid Khan (c), Yamin Ahmadzai, Naveen-ul-Haq, Mujeeb Ur Rahman.
West Indies
Evin Lewis, Shai Hope, Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran (wk), Kieron Pollard (c), Roston Chase, Jason Holder, Keemo Paul, Sheldon Cottrell, Romario Shepherd, Alzarri Jospeh.

Key Players:
AFGH Key Players:
Rashid Khan:
The newly-appointed captain remains Afghanistan’s star export and he comes into this series looking to add to the 131 wickets he has taken in 64 previous ODI innings. He averages 17.80 in the format and has an economy rate of 4.14 runs per over, while he is also closing in on 1,000 ODI runs.
Mujeeb ur Rahman:
Outshone Rashid at several points during the World Cup, and the 18-year-old remains in high demand as a key part of Afghanistan’s spin attack. His ODI record stacks up with 58 wickets in 36 innings.
Rahmat Shah:
Top-scored for the Afghanistan XI in the warm-up game as he posted 47. He will be looking to add to his 15 half-centuries and four hundreds in ODI cricket, which have helped him to 2,255 runs in 66 previous innings.
WI Key Players:
Shai Hope:
Man of the match when these teams last met after he scored 77, he still averages 47.33 in ODI cricket, having hit six centuries and 13 half-centuries in his 61 innings to date.
Sheldon Cottrell:
The saluting pace bowler took 12 wickets in the Caribbean Premier League to continue his excellent personal form. He was also the stand-out West Indian bowler at the World Cup.
Romario Shepherd:
Took his chance to impress in the warm-up game as he claimed 3-16 and is now pushing for an international debut as a result.

AFGH vs WI Dream11 Prediction:
Wicket-keeper
While it might be Nicholas Pooran behind the stumps – as he was in the warm-up game – both he and Shai Hope are worthy of consideration for the West Indies. Hope is ten credits but Pooran looks a bargain at 8.5 credits. Ikram Alikhil is also great value given his form when these teams last met. He is eight credits.
Batsmen
Rahmat Shah was also a key player when these teams last met and he top-scored in the warm-up game. He is the most expensive batsman at 9.5 credits but he could be worth that and more. Najibullah Zadran is another key Afghanistan batsman to consider. For West Indies, Evin Lewis is nine credits and showed some good touches in India, as well as when these teams last met. Shimron Hetmyer is the same price but inconsistency has beset him of late.
All-rounders
Depending how many wicket-keepers you have opted for, your choices could be limited here. Rashid Khan is a must pick at 9.5 credits, for his bowling alone although he remains a useful choice with the bat too. The question is then which other – if any. Mohammad Nabi is ten credits, while Jason Holder is 9.5. The latter may not be captain any more, but he is still important.
Bowlers
Alongside Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman is a vital member of the Afghanistan bowling attack. He is nine credits, as is Sheldon Cottrell, and that reflects the importance of each. It also leaves a solitary place and Romario Shepherd’s form in the warm-up match suggests he could be great value at eight credits. Alzarri Joseph is another to watch at 8.5 credits.
Captain/Vice-captain
Rashid Khan’s bowling means he is always hard to ignore when it comes to selecting Dream 11 captains. He will want to lead from the front and there is no question he has the talent to do so. Rahmat Shah is a part-time bowler for Afghanistan, meanwhile, but his batting form demands attention. Of the out-and-out bowlers, Sheldon Cottrell and Mujeeb Ur Rahman both look like good alternatives based on reputation and recent form
Team Forms:
AFGHANISTAN:
Afghanistan have not played an ODI since their World Cup disappointment, where they lost all nine matches they played. The last of those was actually against the West Indies, where they were set 312 to win at Headingley, and Rahmat Shah (62) and Ikram Alikhil (86) got them off to a good start. Needing to up the run rate, however, they eventually fell to 288 all out to round off a miserable tournament.
WEST INDIES:
West Indies’ only ODIs since the World cup, which they finished with a win against Afghanistan to end a run of six straight defeats, were against India at home in August. The first match was curtailed after just 13 overs by rain, while West Indies were bowled out for 210 replying to 279/7 to lose the second. In the third game, reduced to 35 overs, Chris Gayle hit 72 as West Indies posted 240/7, but India reached a revised target of 255 to win by six wickets with 15 balls to spare.
SQUAD:
Afghanistan: Evin Lewis, Shai Hope, Shimron Hetmyer, Brandon King, Nicholas Pooran(w), Roston Chase, Kieron Pollard(c), Jason Holder, Keemo Paul, Alzarri Joseph, Sheldon Cottrell, Hayden Walsh, Romario Shepherd, Khary Pierre, Sunil Ambris.
West Indies: Hazratullah Zazai, Javed Ahmadi, Rahmat Shah, Ikram Ali Khil(w), Najibullah Zadran, Asghar Afghan, Mohammad Nabi, Gulbadin Naib, Karim Janat, Rashid Khan(c), Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Ibrahim Zadran, Sharafuddin Ashraf, Afsar Zazai, Naveen-ul-Haq, Yamin Ahmadzai.
